Porter Ranch
During the 1930’s and 40’s Northridge became a home to some of Hollywood‘s biggest celebrities. Northridge was often referred to as “the 100 most beautiful acres in the Valley.” Many stars from the stage, screen and radio built homes and ranches in the Los Angeles suburb called Northridge. During the 1960’s, the development and growth of the Porter Ranch Estates stimulated business activity in Northridge. The area became the home of many major industrial firms. The early 70’s a significant rise in retail sales when the largest shopping mall in the San Fernando Valley opened in 1971, Northridge Fashion Center. California State University Northridge (CSUN), originally established in the late 50’s became a major university and now is one of the Valley’s largest employers.

Officially named Northridge in 1938, the area borders Porter Ranch and Granada Hills to the north, North Hills to the east, Reseda to the south and Winnetka and Chatsworth to the west.

In 1994 Northridge, California was the epicenter of a 6.7 magnitude earthquake that was felt throughout Southern California.

Another great feature of the area is the Northridge Recreation Center, a full service park and more open to the public. The recreation center has an indoor gym. The park also has barbecues, a lighted baseball field, indoor basketball courts, lighted outdoor basketball courts, a children’s play area, a community room, picnic tables, a lighted soccer field, lighted tennis courts and is home to the Northridge Pool, an outdoor heated seasonal pool.
